Stärken: What we liked most about the Reign was the strong move at the breakpoint and back end of the lane. This type of reaction will come in handy when the back part of the lane hasn't been stripped as well as it could be.
Schwächen: The skid/flip characteristics of the Reign will cause trouble for most on wet/dry conditions. Conditions with large volumes of oil in the middle part of the lane will make the dry seem even drier, causing shots missed inside of your target to wiggle and shots missed wide of target to overreact.
Insgesamt: The Reign takes the term skid/flip to a whole new level for Storm. This ball is cleaner through the front and stronger down lane than any ball we have seen in the Thunder line in some time.
Comments: The Reign is the latest release from Storm in their highly successful Thunder line. This line of balls has seen some of the best balls to ever come out of the Storm plant. This new release uses the proven R2S cover, which has been used on the T-Roads and Fast and Furious. The pearl version of the R2S cover is super clean through the front part of the lane, which allows it to store plenty of energy for the back end. This ball differs from other balls that have used in that the cover is the new C.A.M. core design. This core features an RG that is higher than the cores used in the T-Roads and Rapid Fires and a differential that is slightly less. The C.A.M. core, combined with the Pearl R2S cover, allows the Reign to glide through the front on any medium-light to medium-oily lane condition, thus maintaining a ton of energy for the breakpoint and back end. All three of our testers found the Reign matches up best with our medium test pattern. The medium volume of oil on this pattern allowed the Reign to make a small read of the midlane, thus making the breakpoint a touch more controllable than it would be on a pattern with a bigger buildup of oil in the middle. The strong entry angle into the pocket made for some interesting pin action. The second best look was on the drier test pattern for all three testers. Stroker's lower rev rate gave him a better overall reaction on this pattern compared to the other two testers. Those with higher rev rates will have to be careful not to send the Reign into the friction too early on drier conditions. The oily test pattern didn't offer much of a reaction for our three testers with the Reign. We don't suggest trying to use this ball too often on the heavy stuff, since there are several other choices in Storm's current lineup that can handle oilier conditions. The same goes for sport type conditions. The skid/flip type of reaction the Reign offers isn't what most bowlers should be looking for on flatter oil patterns.
