Stärken: This isn’t your typical reactive pearl. The sanded box finish, combined with the mica additive, gives this ball a stronger read of the entire lane compared to other reactive pearls, even the sanded ones.

Schwächen: Like any ball that comes with some grit out of the box, the Prodigy will struggle on short and dry patterns. Adding polish will help those with lower rev rates. Those with higher rev rates will need to stair step the finish up from 500 Abralon to 4000 Abralon and then polish it to achieve the length necessary for drier patterns.

Insgesamt: The Prodigy is best suited for medium to heavy oil patterns. The pearl shell with the Mica additive and 4000 grit box finish allow the ball to create traction while maintaining energy for a strong move down lane. Up to the breakpoint, The Prodigy gives us a motion that is similar to the previous release with ETM, the Second Dimension. The back end ofthe lane is what makes the Prodigy the ball to have on medium to oily patterns.

Comments: The Prodigy is the latest addition to the Master line in Storm’s product catalog. This ball continues the use of a symmetric core in this line, as we saw with the Dimension and Second Dimension. The new Centripeta core, combined with the R2X Pearl Reactive coverstock, will allow users to see hook on most oily lane conditions. The Prodigy also features a load of ETM (Enhanced Traction Mica). This is the same mica additive used in the cover of the Second Dimension. The finishing process of the Prodigy is achieved by starting with a 500 Abralon pad and then using a 4000 Abralon pad. By going straight to the 4000 with the addition of the ETM, the ball has more grit under the smoother surface, allowing Prodigy to maintain energy down lane while still giving bowlers a strong read in the middle part of the lane. ln our testing, we found the Prodigy to match up best with our heavy test pattern. Stroker, Tweener, and Cranker all had a terrific overall reaction while this pattern was fresh. Stroker’s ball reaction got even better after a few minutes of testing due to the oil breaking down slightly. The Prodigy chewed through the fresh heavy test pattern for all three testers. For them, the Prodigy was making the corner consistently during the testing period. The medium test pattern offered a reaction that forced all three testers to make a significant jump to the left to find the pocket. The only problem we experienced on the medium pattern was a slight loss of pin carry due to having to cover so many boards en route to the pocket. None of the three testers had much of a look on the dry pattern. The Prodigy was simply too strong for the shorter pattern. Even with polish added, only Stroker and Tweener could keep it to the right side of the headpin. Our sport pattern offered an above average reaction for all three testers with the Prodigy. This ball should excel on heavier sport patterns.
