Stärken:
The recovery down lane is second to none to any Roto Grip release in the Crown line. On our medium test pattern from the start of the session to the end we could bring it back from anywhere and it continued to strike and strike and strike.
Schwächen:
Surface adjustments will most likely be needed for those bowling exclusively on heavy oil patterns. When it comes to the dry stuff, the core/cover combination will cause this ball to check up early, making it hard to find the pocket.
Insgesamt:
The Mutant Cell Pearl is a perfect complement to the Mutant Cell. When the Mutant Cell starts creating too much early friction, a change to the Mutant Cell Pearl will put you right back into striking mode.
Comments:
The Mutant Cell Pearl is the latest addition to Roto Grip’s Crown line of bowling balls. The Mutant Cell Pearl was designed to create easy length with strength in both the midlane and breakpoint. This ball uses the Cytoplasmic XL Pearl Reactive cover wrapped around the proven Nucleus II core found in the original Mutant Cell. We found the Mutant Cell Pearl to provide a strong consistent ball roll followed by a very strong breakpoint and back end reaction. We feel that Roto Grip has continued to add versatility to the Cell line rather than simply replace the Cell Pearl. We found this type of reaction to match up best with our medium test pattern. The box finish allows the Mutant Cell Pearl to push down the lane rather easily, which is due to the polished pearl cover. The box finish will work just fine on medium patterns for all styles as all three of our testers found no need to alter the surface of the Mutant Cell Pearl. Throughout our testing we found ourselves making small moves deeper into the oil pattern. Recovery with energy to carry the corners was there from start to finish on this pattern. For those looking for more traction on oily patterns, we suggest adjusting the cover with a 2000 Abralon pad as we did for our long and heavy test pattern. Although the factory finish allowed us the find the pocket on our oily pattern, the 2000 Abralon finish gave us the exact same look we had on our medium test pattern. We suggest stronger layouts for those who don’t like tinkering with the box finish. Drier patterns won’t offer much for the Mutant Cell Pearl. Weaker layouts should help, but we feel this is simply too much ball for such a pattern. Sport patterns on the medium to oily side will allow the Mutant Cell Pearl to perform at its best. Oilier sport patterns will cause an inconsistent reaction for the Mutant Cell Pearl because of the lack of traction from the polished box finish. Those facing oilier sport patterns will want to try a rougher surface to even out the strong back end reaction.
