Stärken: The biggest selling point for the Taboo Jet Black is the huge down lane motion. When this ball sees friction, there will be no slowing it down.

Schwächen: There is little that will keep the Taboo Jet Black in the bag. Extreme wet/dry conditions might be slightly tougher, but with the right surface the reaction can be smoothed out.

Insgesamt: While the interior of the Taboo Jet Black looks the same as we have seen, the motion is something we have not. This polished solid is cleaner though the front of the lane and stronger at the breakpoint than its predecessors.

Comments: Hammer is doing something taboo once again with its high performance ball that shares the same name. This time they have released a polished solid ball at the high performance price point, giving us the Taboo Jet Black. The first thing that came to mind when we pulled these out of the box was the visual resemblance to the Black Widow. Little did we realize how much fun this ball would be to throw. EBI has done a goodjob with recent releases giving us nearly the same look on our medium pattern as our heavy pattern. The Taboo Jet Black is one of those releases. After some debate, we decided to graph this ball on our medium test pattern. As you can see on the DigiTrax, Cranker was the star of the show, never playing as far left for a ball graph before. The huge move this Taboo makes off the friction had him trying to catch oil in the front of the lane and stay in the oil as long as possible down lane. Shots that got to the track area too quickly had little chance of holding line to the pocket. Cranker removed the polish with 4000 Abralon by hand to slightly smooth out the motion as the testing continued. Stroker and Tweener were ecstatic to see their balls hooking as much as Cranker’s at the back end. Both these testers were able to really open up the lane on this pattern and being able to create such angles really increased their pin carry. On the heavy pattern, Stroker and Tweener squared back up to the lane. The big back end move was enough recovery even on the longer pattern. Cranker was still playing further left, but could feed it to the friction on this heavier volume condition. We made no surface adjustments on this pattern. This Taboo’s polished box finish allows it to glide easily down the lane. The proof is Stroker striking for hours on the dry pattern. Tweener was sliding close to the left gutter and had to make sure to give it plenty of room to keep it off the nose. Cranker ran out of room to move left. Even a 4000 Abralon and Powerhouse Extender polish adjustment was not enough to keep this ball from hooking through the face.
