Stärken: Anytime a bowler gets a ball in their hand that creates traction in heavy oil and still has a big back end move, it is going to be a successful bowling ball. The added back end motion from the original Taboo makes this one even more dangerous.

Schwächen: Short, drier conditions are too much friction for the Taboo Blue/Silver. Those with slower speeds will also struggle on some medium conditions with fresh back ends.

Insgesamt: The Taboo Blue/Silver highlights a new strong pearlized coverstock and will fit the mold of a high performance ball that has hook in the oil and a strong down lane motion. The Taboo Blue/Silver also comes with added purchase deals from Hammer.

Comments: The Taboo Blue/Silver is the second ball released in the Taboo series from Hammer. This one uses the same core shape as the previous with a change in the cover. Instead of the solid Grand Theft cover, the change is to a new pearlized cover called Grand Theft II. This one comes sanded at a 3000 grit Abralon finish that is higher than the first Taboo. The combination of this core and cover creates a ball motion that offers the strong midlane roll of the Taboo combined with an aggressive move at the breakpoint. The overall hook potential of the Taboo Blue/Silver will match up best with oilier conditions for the majority of bowlers. Those with lower rev rates will have success on some medium patterns as well. All three of our testers found the box finish ofthe Taboo Blue/Silver to perform the best on our oily test pattern. We had the room we usually had with a sanded ball on this pattern, but when we started moving left we saw this Taboo keep coming back. From the start, the recovery at the back end really showed. The medium pattern offered a nice look for both Tweener and Stroker. The medium volume of oil moved them further left than they were playing on the oily pattern. The carry did not suffer for either of these testers on this pattern. Cranker was forced much deeper than he would usually start. A coat of Powerhouse factory polish allowed him to move back to where he was on the oily pattern and once again started to strike. The dry pattern doesn’t have enough volume in the heads or the length necessary for this type of ball. Super weak layouts combined with glassing the shell might get you to the pocket, but we think this Taboo would still be too strong for these types of patterns. Sport patterns on the medium to oily side will offer the best look with the Taboo Blue/Silver. Our sport pattern is more to the medium side and all three testers were able to make this one work with our standard layouts. We didn’t change the surface on any of the test balls until the pattern broke down. At that time we applied a light coat of polish and it gave us added push through the broken—down heads.
