Stärken: What we liked most about the Grind is the strong overall ball motion that it provides for all styles of play. Most balls favor one style over another, but that was not the case with the Grind. This is one user friendly piece.
Schwächen: Those who are speed dominant may need to add more surface to the Grind when it comes to heavy oil patterns. The main place we saw users having trouble was on short and dry patterns. Surface adjustments will be recommended for those wanting to use this ball on drier conditions.
Insgesamt: The Hardcore Hammer Grind offers a strong yet controllable ball motion overall. This new release will match up best with medium and medium-oily patterns for all bowling styles.
Comments: The Grind is the first introduction in a new series from Hammer called Hardcore Hammer. This new series will be replacing the Raw Hammer line of balls. This new piece brings a new core for Hammer to the market. The Bullet Core offers a medium RG combined with a Hare potential in the five inch range. The cover used on the Grind is a proven winner. The Violent Reactive veneer has been used on such balls as the Black Widow and the recently released Raw Hammer Jacked. We found the Grind to offer moderate length with strength in both the midlane and back end. This core/cover combination matched up best with our medium test pattern. The new finishing process, which is rougher than most previous Hammer releases and then polished, gave each tester added traction in the oil. This added traction allowed each to play a touch deeper into the oil, making the Grind less sensitive to the breaking down of the track area. Pin carry was never an issue. All three testers preferred the Grind on the oily test pattern over the drier test pattern. Although this wouldn’t be our first ball out ofthe bag on heavy oil patterns, it will definitely be useful after a few games have been bowled. Those wishing to use it from the start on oily patterns will want to drill it more aggressively, thus maximizing the Hare potential and providing more overall traction. The one area that the Grind will struggle with is drier patterns. The friction created by this new release will be too much with the box finish. Smoothing out the underlying finish and then adding polish will increase the length, making it more useful on the dry stuff. We found the Grind to match up fairly well on our sport pattern. Those with lower rev rates will have a better reaction on medium sport patterns, while those with higher rev rates will benefit more on medium-oily sport patterns.
