Stärken: What stood out most in our testing was the ease with which this ball pushed through the front part of the lane. The extra flare potential over the Razyr gave us more recovery down lane as well.
Schwächen: This Backlash will struggle on any condition that has more than what would be considered a medium volume of oil. Those who are speed dominant will need to drill this ball more aggressively, even on medium type oil patterns.
Insgesamt: The Backlash Red/Purple uses the same core as the Blue/Silver, combined with the Max-Length Reactive cover. This combination provides excellent length on any medium and drier condition. Lower rev rates will be limited to drier patterns, while those with higher rev rates will get some play on medium patterns as well.
Comments: The Backlash Red/Purple is the second of two new releases in a series that will replace the entry level Rayzr line from Hammer. This one uses the new Saucer core and utilizes a different cover. The cover used on this ball is Max-Length Reactive. The name of the cover says it all. This ball is about creating the most length possible, making it a perfect fit for drier lane conditions. In our testing we found this Backlash to match up best with our drier test pattern. We never had a problem getting this ball down the lane, despite the length of this pattern being on the short side compared to most house shots. This pattern generally forces bowlers to play a breakpoint that is much closer to the gutter and this Backlash allows the user to get to that spot easily without having to cover as many boards. The strength at the breakpoint is sufficient for all styles of bowlers on this type of condition. Higher rev rates will have more success on medium patterns than those with lower rev rates. On our medium test pattern, Stroker had to move to the extreme outside part of the lane while the other two were able to tighten up their lines slightly. All three had to be careful with their ball speed on the medium test pattern. Those who have a tendency to get excited and amp up the ball speed every once in a while may want to go with a stronger layout to maximize the flare potential of this Backlash. This ball will need to stay in the bag when it comes to heavy oil patterns. There isn't enough built-in friction from the cover for this type of oil pattern. Sport patterns on the drier side will offer a much better overall reaction with this ball compared to medium and oily test patterns.
