Stärken: The overall control of the lane is what we liked most about this Backlash. The box finish allows it to handle any medium type oil pattern and some drier oil patterns as well.

Schwächen: The overall core strength will hold this ball back on fresh heavy oiled patterns. The box finish will also need to be adjusted to handle larger volumes of oil. With the right layout and surface adjustments, the Backlash Blue/Silver will handle medium to heavy oil patterns.

Insgesamt: The Backlashes will be replacing the Razyr series in Hammer's entry level performance category. This new release features a full core, which is totally new for Hammer at this price point. This enables a larger variety of drilling options that weren't available before in this performance category for Hammer.

Comments: The Backlash is a new series of balls from Hammer that will be replacing the Razyr series. This Blue/ Silver version uses the same Saucer core as the Red/Purple version but with a different cover and box finish. This one uses the Max-Control Reactive cover, which was featured on the Cherry Vibe from a couple of seasons ago. The medium-high RG/lower differential system of the Saucer core, combined with the Max-Control Reactive cover, provides a smooth controlled ball motion that matches up the best with medium and lighter oil patterns. We had our best results throwing this new piece on both our medium and drier test patterns. On the medium test pattern, all three testers were able to start this Backlash from just inside of the oil line sending it into the friction, giving each a strong arcing motion to the pocket. As the pattern opened up we were able to make small moves into the higher volume of the pattern and still achieve the same strong arcing move to the pocket. On the drier test pattern, all three had to start this ball an arrow or so deeper than they were playing on the medium test pattern. The medium-high RG of the Saucer core showed its worth on this pattern, allowing the Backlash to stay on line despite the increase in friction from the lane. As long as we gave this ball the necessary room through the front, hitting the pocket was never a problem. As this pattern broke down, each tester was forced to move deeper, which caused our carry to suffer a bit. We suggest those bowling exclusively on drier conditions polish the cover so that they will be able to stay with this Backlash for the entire league session. Sports patterns of medium volume like ours will offer a really nice reaction for the Backlash Blue/Silver. The consistency and control will come in handy on tougher patterns. Heavy volume patterns will require the user to adjust the cover of this new release in order for it to create enough friction in the oil. On our oily test pattern, Cranker was the only one that was able to find the pocket consistently, but his carry wasn't the best since he didn't have the proper entry angle.
