Stärken: What we liked most about the Vital Energy was the improved motion down lane versus the Vital Sign. Even though the breakpoint is strong, the motion at the back end is controllable.

Schwächen: The extra angle at the breakpoint will make this ball hard to control on wet/dry conditions. Adding some surface will create more traction in the oil while smoothing out the breakpoint. Those bowling mainly on drier conditions may want to add a coat of polish.

Insgesamt: The Vital Energy is cleaner through the front of the lane than the Vital Sign, thus having more energy left for the breakpoint. Unlike many balls that are aggressive at the breakpoint, this one can be played closer to the pocket due to the control it offers after the breakpoint.

Comments: The Vital Energy joins the Vital Sign in Ebonite’s upper mid-performance category. Both of these releases share the same core design while featuring different covers. The change in cover to the Flexol Super Charge Reactive, combined with its 4000 Abralon factory finish, allows the Vital Energy to be cleaner through the front. By creating less traction in the oil, the Vital Energy is able to save more energy for the breakpoint, giving it a quicker response to friction than the Vital Sign. The overall hook potential of the Vital Energy is a few boards less than the Vital Sign. This will give Ebonite fans another option when the Vital Sign becomes too much ball. During our testing, we found the Vital Energy to match up the best with our medium test pattern. The 4000 Abralon finish gave all three moderate length through the front with the aggressive move at the breakpoint that this ball was designed to offer. We found the Vital Energy to be rather forgiving on shots that were both inside and outside of target. We couldn’t send it to the extreme outside part of the lane due to the controlled motion after the breakpoint. Control after the breakpoint will make it easier to adjust to lane conditions that breakdown quickly. Those bowling on oily lane conditions will have a decent look when using the Vital Energy. This one will only perform better once this type of pattern starts to breakdown. Drier conditions will force the user to either move in much deeper or add a coat of polish to increase the length. Those with lower rev rates will have the best reaction on drier lane conditions. When we polished the Vital Energy, we experienced a couple more feet of length with a touch stronger move at the breakpoint as well as at the back end of the lane. The Vital Energy will match up best with medium and medium-oily sport patterns. As usual, those with lower rev rates will match up best with fresh sport patterns.
