Coverstock Type: Reactive solid
Original BTM Comments: The Striking Motion features the new Super Shell 1.0 Coverstock from Ebonite. The Flat Iron core design is new as well. Ebonite designed the Striking Motion looking for a ball motion that is stronger than any other ball in their current lineup. The NVD is stronger in the oil compared to the Striking Motion, but is nowhere near as strong from the midlane to the pins. This new release has the ability to recover from almost anywhere at the back end of the lane. All three testers found this ball to match up best with our long and oily pattern. We didn't think that the 4000 Abralon finish would offer enough traction for this pattern, but we were wrong. This ball doesn't need a rough box finish to read the lane. The box finish created just enough traction in the oil while maintaining plenty of energy for the breakpoint and back end. The medium test pattern forced all three testers much deeper into the oil pattern because this pattern was a couple feet shorter and had less volume of oil overall. We were able to hit the pocket easily, but there wasn't the same energy at the pins on this condition. A small coat of polish is what this ball needed for our medium pattern. With the polish added, we achieved a couple more feet of length and a much stronger move off of the spot, which created more impact at the pins as well. The Striking Motion didn't perform very well on our short and dry test pattern. Even with a polished finish, this ball is just too much for this type of oil pattern. The box finish created a decent reaction for Stroker on our sport pattern. Tweener and Cranker preferred this ball with a 2000 Abralon finish on this pattern. Their medium to high ball speeds needed a touch more friction from the cover than the box finished offered.
