Stärken: What we like the most about the Hardball was the ease with which it gets through the front and the strong reaction that it provides at the breakpoint and back end.
Schwächen: The skid/flip nature of the Hardball will be hard to control on both heavy oil and wet/dry conditions. Surface adjustments will help but we suggest looking into another ball if you bowl on these types of conditions.
Insgesamt: The Hardball is a perfect complement to the Curveball. It is aggressive down lane while the Curveball offers a more controlled and rounded shape at the breakpoint. This ball is best suited for medium to dry patterns where length is a must and a strong move down lane is a plus.
Comments: The Hardball is one of two new balls from Ebonite in their lower mid-price category. These two new releases willbe replacing the Smash and Boom from last year. The Hardball uses the same light bulb core shape as the Curveball. The difference between the two is the cover wrapped around it. This one uses Ebonite’s GB10.7. This cover was used with a high degree of success on Ebonite’s The One. The One was known for its aggressive move down lane and by using the GBl0.7 shell on this new release Ebonite has carried that same aggressive move into the Hardball. The overall motion of the Hardball allowed each tester to be aggressive on the drier test pattern due to its easy length and aggressive move at the breakpoint. The lower volume of oil and short length of the pattern causes most balls to overreact in the midlane but the Hardball gave us the extra push through the midlane we needed. Those with medium to high rev rates will have more luck on true medium patterns compared to those with lower rev rates. All others will want to adjust the cover to get the necessary traction on this type of condition. We had very little luck on our heavy oil pattern and we would be surprised if anyone would be able to use this ball on this type of condition. The skid/flip nature of the Hardball isn’t what one should be looking for on fresh sport patterns. We found the Hardball to create a bit of over/under on our sport pattern. After our testing was over for the day we went back to the sport pattern after it had several games of play and that is when we found it to perform to our liking.
