Stärken: Those bowling on medium oil patterns will appreciate the length and strength at the breakpoint of the Ransom. We feel it is ideal when a long and strong type of reaction is required.
Schwächen: The highly polished factory Hnish of the Ransom makes it sensitive to high volumes of oil, especially on longer patterns. The skid/Hip nature of this piece will make it hard to control the breakpoint on these types of conditions Those bowling on such conditions may need to try a 2000 Abralon finish in order to make this ball more predictable.
Insgesamt:The Ransom features a revamped core combined with a brand new cover for Columbia 300. The combination of the two creates easy length with a étrong move at the breakpoint that most will {ind very useful on the typical league shot. The breakpoint is strong but controllable so that even those with higher rev rates will be able to use it.
Comments:The Ransom is the newest upper-mid performance release from Columbia 300. lnside the Ransom is a modilied Full Swing core which now has a medium RG rating combined with over tive inches of total track flare. Wrapped around the Full Swing V.2 core is a brand new cover for Columbia 300. The Super Tilt Pearl veneer works well with this core, providing easy length with an angular motion at the breakpoint on any medium type oil pattern. For those bowling mainly on medium oil patterns, we recommend going with medium to long pin placements to take full advantage ofthe intent of this new release. Choosing an earlier rolling layout will allow this ball to pick up the lane earlier, creating a smoother more arcing reaction at the breakpoint. Those bowling on longer patterns may choose to do so while knocking off the polish to help create even more traction in the oil. We wouldn’t recommend trying to make this ball work on short oil patterns. Skid/Hip type balls aren’t what you should be looking for on shorter patterns. Those bowling on patterns that breakdown rather quickly will want to go with longer pin place- ments. Pin placements in the five inch plus range will allow the Ransom to push through the front of the lane while maintaining a decent amount of flare for the back end due to its large pre-drilled Hare potential. The layouts we use during testing gave each tester their best reaction on our medium test pattern. We left the factory iinish alone for this pattern. The Ransom gave all three easy length through the front with a nice pop at the breakpoint, giving all three excellent entry angle into the pins. Chasing the oil pattern in as it dried up wasn’t a problem for the Ransom, as long as the head oil held up. Our semi-strong layouts were too much for our drier pattern. On the oily pattern, we found the Ransom’s highly polished iinish to push too far down the lane. We took each test ball to 2000 Abralon, which provided the needed traction in the oil. This solved the length problem while making the breakpoint easier to predict. Those bowling on sport patterns will have a better reaction once the pattern has had some play.
