Stärken: The best quality of the Ransom Demand is the ability to use it on nearly any type of pattern. The ball performed at high levels on nearly all our test patterns.

Schwächen: With the proper layout and surface preparation, there is little this ball can’t do. Only the driest of dry lanes will get the Ransom Demand out of bowler’s hands.

Insgesamt: The Ransom Demand is one of the best performing bowling balls we have seen to date. Easy length, control of the midlane, a strong move at the breakpoint, and a continuous back end make it likely that you would find three or four on every rack in the near future.

Comments: The Ransom Demand is the newest addition to Columbia 300’s Value Performance line of bowling balls. This new ball utilizes the same Full Swing core that was used in the Ransom, but this one is wrapped in a new solid reactive coverstock called Super Tilt Solid 2.0. This coverstock change gave us a difficult decision to pick which pattern we wanted to use to graph this bowling ball. After a little debate, we decided we liked it just a little bit more on the heavy test pattern. The longer test pattern provided extra hold and higher ratings. The 4000 Abralon cover provided just enough traction in the oil, while still storing the majority of its energy for the breakpoint. All three testers were able to use the Ransom Demand at its box Hnish and consistently strike on this pattern. We decided to really "open it up" and used a 2000 Abralon on Stroker and Tweener’s bowling balls. At the rougher surface both testers were able to move deeper into the oil and still got the down lane recovery despite their lower rev rates. The reason we had trouble deciding on which pattern to graph was that our look was nearly as good on our medium test pattern. Again, the box hnish was a nearly a perfect match up for all three testers. On this pattern, all had unlimited recovery at the back end. We can’t say it was too strong for this pattern, but we didn’t have quite the hold that we did on the long pattern. After a few games, we went ahead and used a coat of Powerhouse Factory Finish to see what our reaction would be. The coverstock took extremely well to this change. The ball was cleaner through the front and the motion down lane let all three testers play wherever they wanted to on the lane. We could square up and increase the ball speed or move deep and hook the entire lane. We returned the Ransom Demand to the box finish for the dry pattern and were surprised at the length we saw from it. It was too much hook for Tweener and Cranker, but Stroker was able to move deep and get to the pocket. Polish was added and vastly improved all three testers’ reaction. Our sport pattern was no match for the strength of the Ransom Demand. All three testers were able to use the OB as hold and the ball would recover down lane every time. Needless to say we were impressed with the versatility of a ball that was able to handle every condition on which we threw it.
