Stärken: What we noticed first about it was its ability to provide traction in the oil without sacrificing strength at the back end. Even after a couple of adjustments deeper into the oil, the alpha-max maintained the same reaction on the lane.

Schwächen: The strength of the CFT alpha-max cover requires a decent amount of head oil in order for it to perform at its best, especially with the box finish. Those with slower ball speeds will need to stick to oilier patterns. Higher rev rates will need some surface prep when it comes to medium oil patterns.

Insgesamt: The C (System) alpha-max offers the largest hook potential for Brunswick in their current lineup. It may not offer the most traction in the oil or the most back end, but it is easily the strongest overall due to the high friction rating from Brunswick’s new CFT alpha-max cover.

Comments: The C (System) alpha-max is the fourth release in Brunswick’s Chemical Friction Technology line of balls. This one is easily the strongest overall of the four. The alpha-max gets its strength over the others from the CFT alpha-max cover. This new cover offers the highest friction rating of any of Brunswick’s current covers and combined with the I—Block core used in both the C (System) 2.5 and 3.5, gave all three testers their best reactions on our oily test pattern. Even with the final sanding stage being 4000 Siaair, the C (System) alpha-max provided plenty of traction in the oil while maintaining enough to get the job done at the back end. All three testers experienced the same strong hook from start to finish with this new release. We refreshed each test ball with a 4000 Siaair Micro Pad and went at the medium test pattern. On this pattern, Stroker had the best look of the three testers with the factory finish. His lower rev rate allowed him to move in a touch compared to the oily test pattern. Tweener and Cranker were forced much deeper giving the ball plenty of room to allow for its back end reaction. Those with higher rev rates will need to change to the box finish in order to use this ball for more than a game on medium patterns. Our dry test pattern offered very little for any of our testers. Even with surface changes, the alpha-max picked up the lane way too early to give us a consistent line to the pocket. Only those with extremely high ball speed will have success on drier conditions. Sport patterns on the medium to oily side will offer the highest degree of success with this new release. Ours is on the medium side, so all three were able to make the ball work. With the right layout, it will make an excellent option for tougher patterns.
